Hi David
We anglers must be the only people who complain about the hot weather.
Flies to try when there is weed about.
1) Beginners lesson 14 shipmans buzzer
2) " " 18 waterbeetle
3) Intermediate " 5 sedge
4) " " 4 daddy longlegs

Probably what I will be using this weekend.
Hope this helps

Hi, have stumbled across your site and I must say I have definetly been missing out!!!! I started tying my own flies late last year and have been very successful with these in the winter months. However, since the weather has warmed up and there is alot of weed in my local still water fishery many of us have had no or few fish at all. Can you recommend any flies that would be of use as I fear the fish are stuffed from all the natural fly life in the water!!
Thanks again, site is fantastic.....

Hi Dave,
Have you ever caught carp on flies. I have caught them on caddis flies and find that with carp, the smaller the fly, the bigger the carp.

Hi Jon
Elk will give you better floating flies but it does tend to be brittle. Give it a try.....nothing is laid down in tablets of stone.
Happy Fishing

Hi Steve
The first of this sedge pattern that I tried at our local trout lake caught fish from the off. There was a lot of weed in the margins and the performance of the fly improved as it got gunged up with the 'slime' and fished sub surface. If you want the excitement of trout slashing at your fly and not connecting try a muddler.....you can have activity for hours and not connect, particularly if it is calm. Brian Clarke makes good reading. I do believe he originates from the same part of the country as myself.
Happy Fishing
